It seems like only the one week before our vacation is a schooling week. The previous 6 weeks was really slack and suddenly we have practical tests or presentations every day this week. I'm really shagged rushing presentations into the wee hours of the morning, doing up 30+ slides from almost nothing. At least the teacher said that we were the best group among her classes!
I can't wait for the next two days to be over.
There was a time when I believed that you belonged to me. And now I know your heart is shackled to a memory. The more I learn to care for you the more we drift apart. Why can't I free your doubtful mind and melt your cold, cold heart?

A super dilemma The new Superman movie must be banned at any cost!
AS a parent of three, I am increasingly concerned about the spate of movies coming our way that may influence our kids.
Take for instance this upcoming movie, which is fiction masquerading as fact, about a baby from a faraway place who comes to earth, and grows up possessing supernatural powers that he uses to save the world.
Yes, of course, I am talking about the new Superman movie, Superman Returns. I think we should ban this movie. At the very least, try to get an NC16 rating for it.
Young, impressionable minds may watch this "work of fiction" and believe that Superman actually exists! Then we will have to deal with an epidemic of young people who think they too can fly! Or worse, think they should walk around wearing their underwear outside! Think of how this will rend the very fabric of society.
I suggest that all parents gather to fight this menace, firstly, by confiscating all the red underwear from their children's wardrobe.
Secondly, burn any blankets or towels that can be used as a cape.
Thirdly, change all your bunk beds to single deckers. That way if your 16-year-olds try to fly, they will have a shorter distance to fall.
Some of you may say, but the Superman comic and the movie are just works of fiction! Ah, but beneath that comic is an organisation bent on attacking our beliefs and morals! Using pop culture, they hope to make us believe untruthful things such as in people who come from other planets, in super-beings who can fly, and that wearing glasses can disguise you from your loved ones.
You may think we are over-reacting. You may be thinking, please lah, the truth about man not being able to fly unassisted has survived thousands of years. Many have tried to prove otherwise, but failed.
You may be thinking: "Why, I even heard some people were martyred and fed to lions in order to force them to renounce their belief that man cannot fly. That man cannot fly is a Fortress of Truth that has withstood the winds of time and history. So, why the fuss over a movie?"
I tell you why. Because Superman is a very attractive hero — kids, and even some adults, are likely to believe him. So, I have taken the liberty of organising a Parents Against Superman Teaching Obscene Reasoning. Together we can lobby the authorities to ban all things that go against our beliefs.
As part of our efforts to debunk any untruths that the Superman movie may teach our kids, we will be organising seminars that demonise the creator of the character, dig up dirt on him and call him names. We will also be teaching all members of our group the right things to say, or think, when confronted with questions about Superman.
"But who made this comic book and a movie into a Bible on science and flight?" I hear you ask. You may think this is a work of fiction, or pop culture. But I tell you, when an unsuspecting person who knows little about science reads this comic and watches this movie, he will be more likely to believe the falsehoods there. Before you know it, he will start believing: "Yes, man really can leap over buildings in a single bound." When in truth, it takes many bounds to leap over a building.
"Surely, by creating a fuss over this movie, we are giving it more credence or publicity than it deserves?" you ask.
We don't care. It is the principle of the whole thing. We must stand firm against the tyranny of this evil. Even if it helps the creators make more money from the publicity. Say no to red underwear and men in tights!
"But if people watch the Superman movie, maybe they will get interested in science and ask questions and actually investigate the theories of flight and other fascinating aspects of physics?" you ask. We cannot risk this. They may get brainwashed! So, we tell everyone not to watch it. It is safer that way. "But I heard some people say the movie and even the book is not very good to begin with. Won't your actions just make them look credible?"
Surely not. I think it will make them look even more untrue, and then people will stop reading this trash and believing silly things. We must remove and ban stuff that is wrong, so that we don't have people doing dangerous things such as thinking for themselves, investigating facts and discovering the world of research. They may learn the wrong things, then how?
So rally behind me, and fight this blight upon our culture. We must protect our children from wrongful flight and swollen heads. Let us be the kryptonite to the Superman movie. And when we are successful with that, let us start on the next movie, X-Men 3. How can people be taught that a mutant race is possible? Ban that one next! -------------------------------------------
I hope those of the Christian faith would not be offended by this post, be it of Protestant or Catholic or anything else. I'm also not generalising all Christians.
Replace everything regarding Superman with things pertaining to the Christian faith and you may see why the whole furore seems ridiculous to us atheists and believers of other faiths. To us, it's just another average Hollywood movie with religion as one of its main theme.
We respect your beliefs, so please respect our belief that the Holy Bible is fictitious. I say that we respect your beliefs because we do not go around campaigning that there is no Jesus, or that the Holy Bible is false. So please, if it is the banning of the movie, ban it among your own community instead of trying to impose it on everybody. We just want to watch a movie and believe in what we want to believe in.
If everyone tried to impose their beliefs and faiths on each other, we would probably not be standing here today and instead already be lying in some unmarked grave. This is because every individual of each faith would have grievances against another individual of a different faith for believing in another "God" or "Deity" instead of their own. Numerous crusades and jihads would have happened by then, looking at Mankind's track record.
That is why we advocate and practise religious tolerance. Having said that, I'm sure we can tolerate it when the Christian community decide to boycott the movie and ban it among themselves. But the concept of tolerance is breached when some members of the said community decides to try to get the movie banned for everyone, or stand around public areas handing out pamphlets questioning the integrity of the movie and stating what is in the Holy Bible to be facts to everyone. What seperates us from the common beasts are our capabilities to think, our ability of free will. So please do not commit the act of sacrilege to the rest of the human race by attempting to impose your views on us non-Christians.
So please, let us believe in what we want to believe in. What that may be facts to you, may be fallacies to us. I have never disproved the existence of Jesus to a Christian. I have only stated that I do not believe in him. Therefore I say, ban the movie for yourselves, do not ruin it for us. We also do not need you to disprove the movie for us, nor to impose on us what you believe are facts or fallacies. Imposing statements like "Believe in false and you will be gone."(1) and "One Truth. Believe It."(2) are not going to win you any support. To us non-Christians, it is telling us to believe in your faith or else we'll go to your idea of Hell or be left behind during your idea of a Rapture.
In conclusion, I hope the readers can understand the difference between a normal statement and an imposing statement, and understand the grievance of a non-Christian over the unnecessary furore surrounding what is just another average movie to us.

Remember that day in 2002? That quarter-final match. Remember how I was injured and we were given the penalty. You went up and scored for us. The whole team managed to contain the eventual champions even though we were like one man down. We all know how it ended, but the point is that at that point in time, I felt like you did. I didn't want to give up on myself, and I know you guys didn't give up on me still.
We are a team. If one of us is down, the rest of us will cover for that person. We do not consider it as a burden, but as a responsibility, because we know the person has tried his best.
We could have simply just given up yesterday after you left the field. But we knew you tried your best, and that taking away a victory was important to you. We ran our hearts out even though most of us wasn't in the best condition to play that day.
I, we, definitely feel that you still have it in you. I would not allow any of my players to give up on themselves before I, or the team, give up on them, which is never.
Let's just take yesterday's victory as an experience to not play at a street soccer pace in a 90 minutes field game. No one's to blame for having cramps.
So John, I seriously urge you to reconsider giving up on yourself. What doesn't kill us makes us stronger.

What a scary match. If not for our keeper's heroics we may have lost. I won't blame the defense but I rather would blame myself for not scoring more. I really owe everyone who played. You guys did well.
I guess we played on the streets too much. Our pace was way too fast earlier on, leading to cramps later for many of our players.
And please warm up first next time? Haha. I feel really bad disrupting their play so often.

I seriously hope it doesn't rain prior to the match on Wednesday. Or during the match.
The pitch today was terrible. Turned a defender and shot a low shot into the corner, only for the water to decelerate the ball so much. That was not the only situation when the pitch was a bane to us. Oh well... I guess I can't expect much. Even the professional teams in Singapore face these problems.
The score was 5-1 to our favour, but we lost due to some rules as two of our teammates did not wear shinguards to play. Being top in the league leads to stricter checks huh? I'm sure many other teams lack shinguards too. I can't believe we ran our hearts out and lost like that. Hope my coach's appeal is successful.
I'm really, really tired now. Physically and mentally. All's that on my mind now is to win on Wednesday. Let's do it guys. =)

Things have seemed to be looking up for me lately. Buses come almost immediately after I reach the bus-stop, instead of leaving when I reach one. It doesn't rain when I go jogging. Somehow, I just feel happier recently.

I feel suckered into joining the camp. Totally zero planning. One third of the time we were waiting. Ever seen a camp where the helpers seriously wanted to revolt against the heads? Luckily the matter was resolved.
I'm not even a member of the CCA. It really felt weird. At least there were some fun moments and new friends to know. =)
And please, please don't call me when I'm asleep/half-asleep. I'll probably say yes just to cut you off. Like how I did agreeing to help out at the camp.

You know what's bad luck?
One round of mahjong and winning only once. (Not that I'm that bad you know?)
My phone ringing when I told the teacher a few minutes ago I did not bring it. (No one calls me much.)
Waiting for a particular day to finally be able to play football on the field and there's a thunderstorm.
Walking so long to the Acer Service Centre in the rain just to find out my warranty expired. Two days ago.

Maybe that one win stopped me from losing even more money.
Maybe that one call made me realise people still remember me.
Maybe that thunderstorm stopped me from possibly getting injured.
The nice staff at the centre waived my charges anyway.
